It begins as wire or sheet — raw, stiff, unforgiving. Before it can become anything beautiful, it has to be worked. Annealed, hammered, soldered, shaped. Dropped into an acid bath to strip away the fire scale. Then worked again. And again. Each pass through the process doesn't weaken the metal — it strengthens it. The hammer marks that remain aren't flaws. They're what catch the light.

This collection is named for Betty — my mother — because the metaphor writes itself.

She has been through a lot. And like the metal, she came through every fire not broken, but refined. Stronger. More luminous. The kind of woman who becomes a light for everyone around her without ever making it about herself. Wise. Warm. Quietly unshakeable.
